PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK Application Procedure
Before application, previous cargo residues should be completely removed, and the existing paint/coating on the surface should be properly cured.
Application guidance recommends using suitable low-pressure spraying equipment. Application should begin at the bottom of the bulkheads and proceed upward, followed by the tank sides and tank tops. The nozzle is positioned approximately half a metre from the surface during application.
The stated coverage is approximately 16–18 m² per litre, depending on application conditions and surface characteristics. After application, the coating should be allowed to dry completely before loading cargo. Typical drying time is approximately 1–2 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.

PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK: Protective Cargo Hold Coating for Bulk Carrier Ships
RXSOL PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK is a water-based, temporary protective coating designed for cargo hold surfaces on ships carrying difficult and corrosive bulk cargoes. It forms a thin, homogeneous, water-soluble film that helps protect cargo hold surfaces from cargo penetration, staining, corrosion, and contamination.
PRELOAD 300 is particularly useful before loading cargoes such as cement, sulphur, salt, petcoke, coal, and concentrates, where cargo residues can become difficult to remove and may affect the condition of the cargo hold.
What is PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK?
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK is a temporary, water-based cargo hold barrier coating manufactured by RXSOL. When sprayed onto a properly prepared cargo hold and allowed to dry, it creates a thin protective film over the surface.
The film helps prevent small cargo particles from becoming trapped in surface pores and protects the underlying coating and metal surface from contact with aggressive or difficult-to-clean cargoes.
One of the key advantages of PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK is that the protective film can be removed with water after cargo discharge, including cold seawater under pressure.
Key Benefits of PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK
1. Temporary Cargo Hold Protection
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK creates a temporary barrier between the cargo and cargo-hold surface. This can simplify post-cargo cleaning and help maintain the condition of the hold.
2. Protection Against Corrosive Cargoes
The product is designed to protect metal surfaces against contact with corrosive cargoes. This is particularly relevant when transporting cargoes such as salt, sulphur, coal, petcoke, and mineral concentrates.
3. Water-Soluble Barrier
The dried film is water soluble and can be removed after unloading without requiring aggressive chemical stripping in normal applications. Marichem states that the film can be removed using cold seawater under pressure.
4. Helps Prevent Cargo Penetration
The temporary film fills surface pores and helps prevent fine cargo particles from becoming trapped in the cargo-hold surface. It can also help protect paintwork against cargo penetration.
5. Suitable for Metal Surfaces and Coatings
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK can be used on metal surfaces and metal alloys and is designed not to adversely affect rubber, plastic compounds, or cargo-hold coatings when properly applied.
Applications of PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK is primarily used as a cargo hold protective coating on bulk carriers and other vessels transporting difficult-to-clean or potentially corrosive bulk cargo.
Typical cargoes include:
-
Cement
-
Sulphur
-
Salt
-
Petcoke
-
Coal
-
Mineral concentrates
-
Other difficult-to-clean bulk cargoes
The manufacturer specifically identifies these cargo types for PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK application.
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK Removal After Cargo Discharge
After unloading, the temporary protective film can be removed using water. The manufacturer's technical information states that cold seawater under pressure can be used for removal.
This water-removable characteristic can help reduce the effort required for cargo-hold preparation between voyages and may support faster hold-cleaning operations.
Packaging
Marichem's technical documentation lists PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK:
-
25 L plastic jerrican
-
210 L plastic drum
Why Use PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK for Cargo Hold Protection?
Cargoes such as cement, petcoke, coal, salt, sulphur, and mineral concentrates can leave stubborn residues or interact with cargo-hold surfaces. Applying a temporary barrier before loading can help reduce direct contact between the cargo and the hold surface.
The main operational benefits include:
-
Temporary protective barrier
-
Protection against difficult and corrosive cargoes
-
Reduced cargo penetration into surface pores
-
Easier post-discharge cleaning
-
Water-removable film
-
Suitable for bulk cargo operations
-
Simple spray application
-
Suitable for metal surfaces and compatible coatings when properly applied
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK for Marine Cargo Hold Maintenance
For ship operators, ship managers, superintendents, and marine cleaning contractors, cargo hold preparation is an important part of maintaining vessel turnaround efficiency.
Using a temporary hold coating such as PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK before loading selected bulk cargoes can help protect the cargo-hold surface and simplify subsequent cleaning operations. The product is specifically positioned by Marichem as a protective coating for cargo tanks/holds against corrosive cargoes.
Safety and Handling
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK as non-flammable and non-corrosive, it also warns that prolonged contact may cause skin or eye irritation. Appropriate protective gloves, goggles, and respiratory protection as required by the SDS should therefore be used during handling and spraying. Avoid spraying directly onto skin or eyes and avoid inhaling spray mist.
Always follow the latest SDS, Technical Data Sheet, vessel procedures, application instructions before use.
Conclusion
PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK is a specialized water-based temporary cargo hold protective coating designed for vessels transporting difficult-to-clean and potentially corrosive bulk cargoes. Its ability to form a thin protective film and subsequently be removed with water makes it a practical solution for cargo hold protection and cleaning preparation.
For vessels carrying cement, sulphur, salt, petcoke, coal, and mineral concentrates, PRELOAD Slip HOLD BLOCK can help protect cargo-hold surfaces, reduce cargo penetration, and simplify post-cargo cleaning operations.
