Sodium hydroxide is a strong alkali. Its reaction with acid yields salt and water. Sodium hydroxide solution has many industrial applications including dyes and drugs. It has the ability to disintegrate lignin and hence is used in paper manufacturing.

dissolve 40.00 g of sodium hydroxide in water to make volume 1 liter. For a 0.1 N solution (used for wine analysis) 4.00 g of NaOH per liter is needed.
What are some uses of sodium hydroxide? Sodium hydroxide is used in bar soaps and detergents. Sodium Hydroxide is also used as a drain cleaner to unclog pipes. Around 56% of sodium hydroxide produced is used by industry, with 25% of NaOH used in the paper industry.
