Lead glass, commonly called crystal, is a variety of glass in which lead replaces the calcium content of a typical potash glass.[1] Lead glass contains typically 18–40% (by weight) lead(II) oxide (PbO), while modern lead crystal, historically also known as flint glass due to the original silica source, contains a minimum of 24% PbO.[2] Lead glass is often desirable for a variety of uses due to its clarity.[3]
Lead dioxide is used in the production of matches, pyrotechnics, dyes and the curing of sulfide polymers. It is also used in the construction of high-voltage lightning arresters. Lead dioxide is used as an anode material in electrochemistry.
Lead Dioxide is a PROBABLE CARCINOGEN in humans. There is some evidence that inorganic Lead compounds cause lung, brain, stomach, and kidney cancer in humans and they have been shown to cause kidney cancer in animals. a carcinogen.
